The firstborn of Systam is a multi-functional self-service kiosk. Systam has partnered with numerous companies and the company’s devices, and services are found all over Finland. As the centerpiece of their line of work, it is crucial to keep the kiosk up-to-date and running.
Kiosk for Systam
Challenge statement
The main task was solving the drastic usability issues, researching and defining user paths, and modernizing the visual appearance of the system. The company had implemented a facelift considering most of its services and products and needed a design system to ensure visual and functional consistency. As the sole design team, creating a comprehensive design system was impossible, given the strict deadline.
My role
My responsibilities were from wireframing to high-fidelity layouts and researching the usability issues the old system had presented. My idea was to implement a guide to follow accessibility standards (WCAG) to ensure the best possible user experience for a wide range of users.
Where we stand
A standing touch-screen device with a fixed angle and an on-screen keyboard occupying more than a third of available space set crucial boundaries for the project. My key to this task was to propose less typing and more automation.
