Systam Rooms

Systam partnered with customer to implement a meeting room display piloting furthering the pre-existing partnership. There was a noticeable demand for intuitive meeting room software to accompany Systam’s other services.

Challenge

To design and implement a meeting room display for a customer. The end product had to be simple enough for anyone to use yet it must contain plenty of information that has to be displayed and understood with a glance.

As with any touchscreen device, the goal is to present the functions and information to be used fluently, looking past the users previous experience on such a device.

My role

My responsibility in this project was both on comparative search of similiar services and UI/UX design. This being my first ever paid project I sided with senior devops engineer.

Working closely with development team my crucial task was to communicate clearly to ensure both visual consistency and refined style. At that time, the company did not have a working design system for guidance.

The solution

I decided to approach the task at hand with universality over everything else. An idea of an ample visual confirmation of availability and the current state of a meeting room guided me through the project. From the users perspective, all necessary information would be at a glance.

What I found challengin was fitting all necessary information and functionality in a small touch screen while maintaining a simple appearance. Extensive research pointed out that the most needed feature was quick meeting room reservations instinctively made while entering the room.

My idea was including access to calendar of certain room to better visualize and humanize the reservations and availability.
